The author and her family embraced Daheshism, to the discontent of their aristocratic relatives, first among whom was the then President of the Lebanese Republic, Beshara el-Khoury, resulting in Dr. Dahesh';s persecution, stripping of his Lebanese citizenship, and banishment outside the Lebanese borders.
